PRACTICUM INTERN · A KEY THERAPY

Max Acenowr

MSSW Candidate · B.A.

Max Acenowr (they/them) is a Master of Science in Social Work candidate at Columbia University, where they specialize in Advanced Clinical Practice. They earned their B.A. in Africana Studies and the Study of Women and Gender from Smith College and are currently completing their clinical practicum with A Key Therapy.

Max's approach to social work is rooted in racial, disability, and LGBTQ+ justice, restorative practice, and an understanding that healing does not happen separately from the social, cultural, and systemic forces that shape our lives. They are particularly interested in decolonizing therapeutic practice and exploring approaches that center storytelling, relationship, community, identity, and connection to the natural world.

Their developing clinical practice draws from narrative, restorative, and strengths-based approaches, with growing interests in forest therapy and testimony therapy. Max is especially interested in working with adolescents and adults navigating identity, life transitions, trauma, relationships, and experiences of marginalization.

Outside of their clinical work, Max is a writer, educator, and youth services professional. They love horror and fantasy, photography, theater, and spending as much time as possible wandering through creeks and forests. Max can be reached at intern@akeytherapy.co.
